Composer, pianist and singer-songwriter Robert Morsberger is a 15 year resident of Croton, drawing literary inspiration for his songs while raising the third generation of Morsberger men to surround themselves in art.
Morsberger lives on a sleepy dead end street on Croton.
My home is my favorite place, says Morsberger.
However, he does not necessarily think his day- to- day life is where the creative process draws its material. Putting in the hours, he says, is where most of his writing comes from.
An arranger and composer by day and a touring act by night, Morsberger is a frequent contributor to Nova Science Now, programs on PBS. He also arranged and composed for National Geographic, Frontline, and HBOs Boardwalk Empire. His latest album, The Chronicle of a Literal Man, collects inspiration from a trio of murdered civil rights workers to Dalton Trumbo, the blacklisted Hollywood writer.
Morsbergers upcoming performance, at the Bean Runner Café in Peekskill on Friday, June 10, will feature Jon Herington, one of the quartet of musicians Morsberger has been playing with since the mid-nineties. John Herington, along with Paul Ossola and Robin Gould contributed to the bulk of Morsbergers recent catalogue.
Robert makes up the second generation of Morsbergers to enter the arts, his father, Philip Morsberger, was a painter who also drew some of his inspiration from the civil rights movement. Morsbergers son, Jesse, will likely follow the artistic path as well. Jesse Morsberger was recently commissioned to do a painting for the Croton Free Librarys new teen room, and occasionally plays in Croton with his band Baton-Baton.
Morsberger has already started the recording of his next album, which comes after last years release of Chronicle of a Literal Man, and plans to finish it rather quickly. A recent interview and live performance with Morsberger will be rebroadcast on WDFH 90.3 FM, on Wednesday, June 8, at 9 p.m.
