YORKTOWN, N.Y. - The completed AMVETS Bridge on the Taconic State Parkway brought little relief for southbound commuters Wednesday morning, as concrete barriers will remain on the parkway for about a week, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Sue Stepp, Hudson Valley regional spokesperson for the DOT, said southbound traffic between Underhill Avenue in Yorktown and Pines Bridge Road in New Castle should be back to normal by Oct. 12.
"There will be intermitten lane closures," Stepp said about the construction. "we have to remove those temporary cross-overs, we have to remove the temporary ramps, we have to remove the barrier, and we have to re-stripe the lanes to accomodate three lanes of traffic again."
During the project, traffic was re-routed to the southbound Taconic into four lanes with a concrete barrier between two lanes in each direction. Over the bridge, the speed limit was lowered to 35 miles per hour.
