Peekskill Collision Of Two Unlicensed Drivers Injures Five

PEEKSKILL, NY -- A head-on collision involving two drivers with suspended licenses sent five people to Westchester Medical Center late Wednesday night.

At approximately 11:25 p.m. the driver of a Hyundai Suburban SUV with three passengers travelling eastbound on the Bear Mountain State Parkway attempted to illegally pass another motorist in front of them by crossing over a double yellow line and collided with a motorist travelling westbound in a Mercedes-Benz sedan near Highland Avenue, according to Peekskill Police Spokesman Lt. Eric Johansen.

"All five individuals were transported to Westchester Medical Center, with the driver of the eastbound vehicle appearing to be the most seriously injured with a broken leg," Johansen said.

Peekskill police, fire and EMS and Mohegan EMS all responded to the scene where it was determined that the driver of the eastbound vehicle, Jade O'Leary, 20, of Hudson, N.Y. and the westbound vehicle, Ronald Carter, 46, of Peekskill were driving with suspended licenses, a criminal misdemeanor. Both were issued city court summonses on the scene.

A recent head-on collision on the Bear Mountain Parkway claimed the life of a Lake Peekskill man.  Last week, the New York State DOT announced that a $60 million project designed to build a median on the accident-prone parkway, had been scrapped for 2012.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing and further charges could be filed against O'Leary, Johansen said.
