There's Plenty to Do in Peekskill This Weekend

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – From wild animals to Hawaiian swing, there’s plenty to do in Peekskill this weekend.

Friday

The BeanRunner Café will host Peter Calo, known for his work with Carly Simon and other Grammy Award winning artists like James Taylor and Hall and Oats. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $10.

The Paramount Center for the Arts will present the film “Take Shelter” starring Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain on both Friday and Saturday. The film is rated R and starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for members and $9 for the general public.

The Peekskill Coffee House will have the Yan Falmange Trio performing jazz covers of pop music at 8 p.m. There is no cover charge.

Saturday

Jazz composer, percussionist, lyricist and poet Alan "Chip" White will bring his Chip White Ensemble to the Beanrunner Café for a 7:30 p.m. show. Admission is $10.

The Birdsall House will have Hawaiian swing group Tiki Daddy at 10 p.m. on Saturday. There is no cover charge.

Also on Saturday, get a healthy dose of jazz, blues and R&B with The Lindsey Webster Band at 12 Grapes. The show starts at 9:30 p.m. and admission is $10 or $5 with a dinner entrée.

The Peekskill Coffee House will have the Kurt Henry Band playing acoustic rock and blues starting at 8 p.m. There is no cover charge.

Sunday

12 Grapes will hold its free monthly Kids Open Mic, a showcase for talented musicians and singers age 17 and under. Young musicians can bring their guitar, bass, sax, flute or whatever instrument they play. The event starts at 5:30 p.m.

Also on Sunday, take a walk on the wild side when the Paramount Center for the Arts presents "Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom" live. Host Peter Gros highlights his countless wildlife adventures with a mix of video clips, audience participation, and exotic animals. The show starts at 3 p.m. and tickets are $25 and $35.

The Peekskill Brewery will have local favorites Phineas and the Lonely Leaves at 9 p.m. on Sunday to celebrate owner Keith Berardi's 30th Birthday. There is no cover charge.

Monday

Celebrate the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr. at Peekskill Middle School with the “Reviving the Spirit, Restoring the Dream,” 28th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Interfaith Worship Service. The free event, sponsored by the Peekskill Area Pastors Association, starts at 3 p.m. and will feature several speakers and inspirational song. Admission is free.
