Whether youre looking for outdoor action or indoor entertainment, theres plenty going on in Peekskill this weekend. On Saturday, the Peekskill Farmers Market kicks off for the year on Bank Street from 8:30 to 2 p.m. Fresh produce, bread, honey, meats and more will be available.
There will be a 5K Run/Walk for Heroes on Saturday to raise funds for the American Legions Operation: Wounded Warriors charity. The race, which starts at 10 a.m., includes a barbeque and raffle prizes at the finish line. There is a $20 entrant fee and check-in is at 9 a.m. The race will be start at the Steamfitters Local 21 building, 1024 McKinley Street.
Also Saturday, Peekskill City Schools District will host its Sports Carnival. The event is aimed at exposing students to all the sports available in the district and will include batting cages, a pitching machine, high and long jumps, football, basketball and soccer contests as well as a dunk tank. There will also be uniform sales, a tag sale, refreshments and other fundraisers. The carnival will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Torpey Field.
Twenty-five of the finest voices in New York will unite in song to raise money for medical equipment Saturday. Tickets for the event, Idol at the Paramount, are $15. The performance will take place at 10 p.m. at the Paramount Center for The Arts. The event is presented by Daydreamer Productions along with RX Entertainment and the Peekskill Rotary.
On Sunday, the Peekskill Attic Treasures and Flea Market will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Bank Street. Join the hunt for Antiques, artwork, books, attic finds and more. Admission is free.
Also on Sunday, the 2011 Fat Tire Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Blue Mountain Reservation. A celebration of all things mountain bike related, the event will feature lots of music, food and fun activities for the whole family. Admission and parking are both free.
