PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The city youth bureau will be selling fresh Christmas trees in the building's parking lot off Main Street this holiday season.
The trees were shipped in from a farm in the Carolinas and cost between $35 and $55 dollars depending on size.
The trees will join the holiday wreaths on sale by the bureau, which are decorated by kids at the bureau and cost $22, that went on sale Monday, said Peekskill Youth Bureau Executive Director Valerie Swan.
"We started selling Christmas trees last year and on the first day we almost sold out of wreaths, so this year we ordered double the amount of wreaths and they're going really fast," Swan said.
The money raised is used to fund a trip to New York City during the holidays, she said. "The kids decorate the wreaths so they can learn how to do it and it gets them involved in positive things during the holidays," Swan said.
