PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – The city Police Department is looking for volunteers to join its auxiliary police force.

"We're looking for good, responsible people," said Police Officer Andy Pollay, the program coordinator. "People who can pull some time and help the community."

Police are looking for candidates who are at least 21 years old, preferably Peekskill residents, who are concerned about their community and want to contribute and volunteer four hours a week. Those looking to volunteer must go through a background screening process and a series of interviews, Pollay said.

"If everything works out, we bring them in, give them ongoing training, and they respond to municipal emergencies and also help out with events in traffic control. They do events such as the farmers market, parades, concerts, and they do patrols downtown."

Anyone interested in joining the auxiliary force can call the Peekskill Police Department at 914-737-8000.
