Peekskill Lincoln Society Honors Historian James McPherson

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Lincoln Society in Peekskill recently presented the Lincoln Legacy Award to James McPherson, professor emeritus of U.S. History at Princeton University.

McPherson was the featured speaker at the Lincoln Society's annual Presidential Banquet at Cortlandt Manor's Hollow Brook Golf Club.

The banquet was the national launching event for McPherson's latest book "The War That Forged a Nation: Why the Civil War Still Matters."

McPherson is considered to be the "dean of Civil War historians," and his achievements include the Pulitzer Prize in History for "Battle Cry of Freedom" in 1989.
