PEEKSKILL, N.Y. - It was a perfect day for a celebration Saturday as hundreds gathered in downtown for the city's second annual Juneteenth Parade.
This year's event, which celebrates African American emancipation from slavery, began with a proclamation ceremony at the AME Zion Church on Park Street, with the parade starting there and working its way to the viewing stand on Nelson Avenue.
The event continued at Riverfront Green Park with an extensive lineup of gospel, jazz and hip-hop music scheduled to run from 4 to 8 p.m.
This year's grand marshals were former county legislator Lois Bronz and actor Michael K. Williams of the HBO shows "The Wire" and "Boardwalk Empire."
