Former Peekskill FD Volunteer Boniello Dies at 75

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. - Joseph J. Boniello Sr., formerly of Peekskill, died March 13 surrounded by family. He was 75. 

Boniello served as a lector at the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill for many years. He also volunteered with Centennial Hose at the Peekskill Fire Department for more than 50 years. 

The son of Federico and Rose Boniello, he was born July 30, 1936 in Peekskill. In 1957, Boniello married his high school sweetheart, Mary Horan. He served in the Air National Guard from 1954-60 and worked for John Hancock until his retirement.

In Peekskill, Boniello was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Most recently of Beacon, N.Y., he was a parishioner of St. Mary's in Fishkill, N.Y. He most enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, playing golf, bowling and rooting for his favorite team, the New York Yankees.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Joseph Jr. and his wife Catherine, James, John, Jeffrey and his wife Theresa, Jay, Joanne and Jennifer and her fiancé, Tim Fetzer. He also is survived by seven grandchildren, to whom he was known as "Pop-Pop."

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill. There will be a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Assumption, followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 54, Beacon, NY 12508, or to benefit the South Circle 5 Unit at Foundation for Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Restricted to SC5, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
