Cortlandt Man Launches Go Fund Me Page For Ex-Neighbor In Need Of Kidney

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- A Cortlandt resident is reaching out to the community to ask people to help a Richford man with doctor bills.

Richford volunteer fireman and former chief John Keener is a husband and father who was an active volunteer in the community. Due to poor health, he's no longer able to work and is need of a kidney, according to a GoFundMe page established by friend Jack Zahl.

"John was especially helpful to my parents during my father's lengthy illness," Zahl said on the page. "With huge hospital and doctor bills, John is facing facing financial difficulty and may have to sell his home."

Zahl is also participating in a mini-triathlon (1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike and 5 mile run) on Sunday Dec. 4 to help raise money for his friend. 

The Richford Fire Chief held a benefit for Keener in September.
