Carroll, Ex-Peekskill Post Office Manager, Dies

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Donald James Carroll, Sr., formerly of Peekskill, died at his home in Oceanside, Calif. on March 23, surrounded by family. He was 82.  

Carroll worked for the Peekskill Post Office, where he was promoted to the position of superintendent of postal operations. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion and Cortlandt Hook and Ladder One. 

Born in Peekskill on Dec 15, 1929, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Warga) Carroll. After graduating from Peekskill High School in 1947, Carroll attended SUNY Albany and served in the Army. He was an avid fan of Frank Sinatra and the New York Giants.  

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Grace Garrison Carroll of Oceanside, his sons Thomas (Geraldine) Carroll of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Donald (Suzanne) Carroll, Jr. of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., his daughter Kim Carroll and her partner Luigi DiGregorio of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., his stepsons Bruce Garrison of Huntington Beach, Calif., Scott (Barbara) Garrison of Murrieta, Calif., Craig (Tod) Garrison of Saipan, Marianna Islands, his stepdaughters Debra (Anthony) Amarante of Victorville, Calif., Darcy (Brett) Orand of Corona, Calif., his sister Vivian Miller of Peekskill, 23 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nephews. Carroll was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Jean Carroll. 

A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
