PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Peekskill Area Pastors Association will be holding its free Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday and is looking for help supplying turkeys and pies.
I have been told by our Thanksgiving Community Dinner Committee that we are in great need of turkeys at the Salvation Army headquarters to be used for our annual community dinner," said PAPA President Bishop Michael Champion of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in Buchanan. Also, pies are still needed to be brought to the Methodist Church on Monday.
The dinner will be held at the United Methodist Church at 1040 Main St. and will provide turkey, trimming and dessert for those in the community unable to afford a meal or have nowhere else to go. The Salvation Army is located at 117 Nelson Ave.
About 300 dinners are served each year to hungry residents and between 30 and 50 turkeys are usually prepared, according to Champion.
The reception begins at 11:30 a.m. and dinner begins at noon.
Meals are also being delivered to homebound residents. To have a meal delivered call Cindy Quinn at (914) 671-8806 by Nov. 21.
