PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Nuns in Peekskill need help heating their convent this winter.
A crowdfunding page called "Heat for the Sisters" has garnered almost $124,000 for the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Peekskill.
The goal is to raise $350,000 for the 15-year-old convent, which has nonworking boilers and a chapel in need of heating repairs.
The sisters are elderly -- the oldest is 105 -- need funds to pay for the repairs, according to the y oucaring.com web page
The nuns were told not to turn the chapel heat on because it could collapse. Chapel repairs are estimated to be around $60,000, and he boilers each will cost around $50,000.
Water from the back porch has leaked into the convent's Records and Archive Rooms, and the repairs for that project are $49,500.
