PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Happy birthday to Peekskill’s Elton Brand!
Brand, a professional basketball player turns 37 on Friday.
Elton Tyron Brand was born on March 11, 1979, and attended Peekskill High School where he played with other future NBA players, Lamar Odom and Ron Artest.
By his senior year, he was ranked among the top high school basketball players in the country and was named the state’s “Mr. Basketball.”
Brand, who now plays for the Philadelphia 76ers, played college ball at Duke University and was drafted by the Chicago Bulls.
He was also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, and Atlanta Hawks, his Wiki entry said.
Brand is more than an outstanding athlete, he is a philanthropist as well.
He started a foundation that supports worthy causes in his hometown of Peekskill, and also in Chicago, and Durham, N.C.
He also is a founding member and president of Gibraltar Films, a company that invests in films.
Its first project was the Vietnam-era prisoner-of-war film “Rescue Dawn,” which was directed by Werner Herzog.
