According to the National Day Calendar, the first pies appeared around 9500 BC in the Egyptian Neolithic period or New Stone Age. Aside from being a source of sweet tooth satisfaction, pies have also been used over the years for film humor ever since Actor Ben Turpin received one in the face in the silent movie, "Mr. Flip" in 1909.

In Westchester County, residents have a host of pie places to choose from. Plan now to buy yours. And feel free to tell us where you like to go for your pie-fix.

Homestyle Desserts Bakery (24 S. Water St, Peekskill, 914-737-2902) is one of the County's biggest dessert destinations. You'll find around 10 to 12 different pie varieties here, with apple being among the top seller. A worker behind the counter told Daily Voice the apple is made from scratch with fresh fruit and no preservatives. FYI they also do a gangbuster cake business. They do a lot of the Yankees cakes and did Derek Jeter's retirement cake.
