We asked for your top picks for our DVlicious "Best Soup in Westchester County" contest and whittled it down to five finalists. Each is being profiled this week with the winner selected Monday, Feb. 22. Here’s a “bowl-ful” rundown on one of them.
Black Cat Café, 45 Main St., Irvington, (914) 231-9060
Number of Soups Offered: Two a day. The rotating selection ranges from Em’s chorizo-red lentil, vegan split pea, and velvet mushroom soups to Moroccan-spiced chickpea, Mulligatawney (Indian), vegetarian campfire chili, sweet potato-chicken chowder, and carrot-artichoke with ginger.
Worth Dishing About: The café’s breakfast (Kenyan coffee, French toast, smoothies) and lunch (wraps, salads) menu features organic meat (from humanely raised animals) and produce, non-GMO grains and hormone-free dairy products. Open since 2007, the cheery, Wi-Fi friendly cafe is run by a self-professed late-blooming inspired cook and local resident Emily Feliciano.
