What To Do In Peekskill This Week

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – There's plenty going on this week, starting with two family-friendly events on Columbus Day. Check out our Events page for even more things to do.

Monday, Oct. 8

Columbus Day: The Peekskill City School District and the Hendrick Hudson School District will be closed.

Running Races for Children: Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Pool at Depew Park, and the first race is at 9:30 am. The entry fee is $3. All races are one lap around the track, and everyone receives a ribbon. This event is open to children in first through sixth grades only. All participants must be accompanied by an adult and must must have a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian. Depew Park.

Columbus Day Carnival: 1 - 7 p.m. The carnival features rides, games food vendors and more. Proceeds will benefit Peekskill Celebration and the Peekskill Lions Club. Riverfront Green Park.

Second Mondays Studio II Open Mic: 6-9 p.m. All types of music, instruments and vocals are welcome! Sign-ups start at 7 p.m. and music is from 7:15 until 9 p.m. Each performer or group will get two songs or 10 minutes. Admission is $5. BeanRunner Cafe, 201 S. Division St.

Tuesday, Oct. 9

Peekskill City School District first-quarter progress reports sent out.

Tuesday Tales: 11 a.m. Stories for children ages 3 to 5. Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave.

Page Turners Book Club: 4:30 p.m. A book club for teens. Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave.

Peekskill Committee of the Whole Meeting: 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Paul Schwerman conference room. Peekskill City Hall, 840 Main St.

Peeksill Common Council Meeting: 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the upstairs Common Council chamber. Peekskill City Hall, 840 Main St.

Wednesday, Oct. 10

Book Babies: 11 a.m. to noon. Stories for children up to age 3. Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave.

Thursday, Oct. 11

Teacher in the Library: 4-6 p.m. Students can get help with homework from a certified teacher. Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave.

Open Mic Night: 8:30-11:30 p.m. All talented artists are invited to take the stage and perform. The venue has a a full back line and drum kit, so bring your guitar, bass or drumsticks. Admission is free. Signup begins around 8 p.m. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St.

Drew Bordeaux: 10 p.m. The local musician will play a free live set for patrons. Birdsall House, 970 Main St.

Friday, Oct. 12

Peekskill City School District Early Dismissal: The district will dismiss students 15 minutes early as part of a countywide emergency evacuation drill.

Tales for Tots: 11 a.m. Stories for children ages 2 and up. Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave.
