After a preliminary post mortem conducted by the Bergen County Medical Examiner, Molinelli said, his office isn’t treating the death of 53-year-old Christine Bezak as a homicide “based upon the lack of any evidence of assault or foul play,” Molinelli said.
However, he said, “we will review the matter once toxicology results are available in 2 to 3 weeks.”
Under New Jersey Law, Molinelli said, “certain persons that have the responsibility and ability to call for assistance of others in need of same may be subject to prosecution.”
However, he said, “there remains no evidence, at this time, that Ms. Bezak was with others in the late evening or early morning,” and that his office “will continue to review this case to determine if such is the case.”
Molinelli did not address a CLIFFVIEW PILOT report yesterday that quotes a law enforcement source saying that authorities were trying to determine whether Bezak may have shed her own garments, in a phenomenon known as “paradoxical undressing” (SEE: ‘Paradoxical undressing’ explored in death of Maywood woman).
Bezak was reported missing by her husband Tuesday night.
Her body was found around 8:30 a.m. yesterday behind a row of bushes between the county Board of Social Services building on Passaic Street and a Route 17 BMW dealership at the Maywood border, a short walk from her home.
She apparently died overnight, Molinelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The prosecutor confirmed that she was partially clothed and that garments were found nearby.
Bezak had a history of alcohol trouble, and empty bottles found nearby were being tested to determine whether they were hers, he said.
