Peekskill Spellbinders To Tell Stories At Field LIbrary Bookstore

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Peekskill Field Library Bookstore will be hosting an evening of spellbinding stories for adults and school-aged children with the Peekskill Spellbinders on Friday, June 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Field Library Bookstore is at 934 South Street, Peekskill.

Featuring nationally known performer Judith Heineman and her singing sidekick, Daniel Marcotte, the program will include the stories “The Empty Pot,” “The Woman Who Flummoxed the Fairies” and “Jack’s First Job.” Marcotte will add a selection of sea songs and background music to the telling.

The Peekskill Chapter of Spellbinders was founded in 2004 by retired Peekskill teacher/social worker Linda Conte, and the almost 100 trained volunteer storytellers commit to telling stories in the oral tradition to students in pre-K through the middle school during the school year.

Since 2004, they have told stories to almost 600 classrooms of students. Another training session for volunteers is scheduled for September.

Adults interested in joining Spellbinders may contact Conte at (914) 447-2075.
