A Peekskill Project 6 photographer, Occhipinti, will discuss her show “Doorways,” in which Peekskill residents posed in the gateways to their homes. The show will be on display through Jan. 29.

“I wanted my photography to engage and push the liminal space not only between the individual and communal, but between subject and photographer." Occhipinti explains. "At first, I thought meeting someone on his or her doorstep might alter this reaction, offering the subject the proverbial “home court” advantage, though in practice, this was not always the case. I started small, asking close neighbors and friends. As I progressed, I was pushed through my own doorway, moving on to neighbors I had seen only in passing or some of whom I had never before met.”

Occhipinti is based in the greater New York area and drew wide acclaim for her stop motion Dreams show at NYC SALT in 2010.

She has worked with noted photographer Tiziano Magni for Número China and BlackBook as well as domestic ad campaigns for Macy’s, Marchesa and The Limited. She currently works at Pier 59 Studios.
