Embark Peekskill along with Kevin Michael Winterfield will be presenting Electronica 1.0, an electronic music festival from noon to 1 a.m. at Embark's headquarters at 925 South St.
Winterfield said Peekskill has become an epicenter of electronic music for performers and music fans.
"Peekskill is going through an exciting music-renaissance period," Winterfield said. "I want to bring together the best local electronic talent the Hudson Valley and beyond has to offer."
The event features four workshops from between noon and 4 pm. that focus on electronic music production, promotion and performance. Performances will take place between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. and feature 11 electronic music acts.
Featured artists include Kidaudra, EtCeter4, Tattoo Money, Droid Daughter and Salinsky.
"We're taking you through a journey of electronic music," Winterfield, an Ossining resident, said. "Some of the music is very avant garde. The later the festival, the more bizarre it gets."
Money raised from the event will go to a local food pantry and to Embark so they can provide scholarships. Meeting with all the electronic musicians inspired Winterfield to put together the festival.
"Seattle is to grunge what Peekskill is to electronic music," Winterfield said. "There's a lot of diversity in Peekskill, a lot of different thoughts. Some of the music is very bizarre but interesting to experience. There's so many different styles."
Winterfield said he is into all the styles of electronic music and said he likes Pink Floyd and music that really tells a story.
"The more people that hear electronic music, the more people like it," Winterfield said. "Some people think it's just dance music, but there's also an ambient sound. We want people to expand their horizons."
Winterfield said they are hoping to make the festival an annual event and that they have had to turn away bands.
"This is 1.0, we're optimistic we can get to 2.0," Winterfield said. "It's so important to me to give back to the community. Helping the community and entertaining the community are important to me. I am in love with Peekskill."
