Peekskill Celebration: The Full Schedule of Events

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – The Peekskill Celebration is here once again with a full weekend of events at the Riverfront Green for the whole family.

Friday, Aug. 3

Free shuttle bus service from the downtown begins at 5 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m.

Main Stage Kickoff: Events run from 6 to 9 p.m. This year’s kickoff concert features the West Point Jazz Knights and opening act the Burr Johnson Trio. The dragon boat eye-dotting ceremony will be held on the main stage right before the Jazz Knights take the stage. This will awaken the dragon spirits in the river and bring the paddlers good luck on Saturday during the Dragon Boat Races.

There will also be an arts and crafts show with a wide variety of booths from jewelry to furniture and more, as well as plenty of food vendors. Exhibitor booths sponsored by the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce will feature chiropractors, home improvement experts, investment planners, real estate professionals and more.

Saturday, Aug. 4

Free shuttle bus service from downtown and Charles Point Park begins at noon and runs until 11 p.m.

The Jan Peek 10K Race: The race will begin at 7:45 a.m. sharp. Applications are available online and in participating stores. The awards ceremony follows the race at the Division Street Gazebo. Proceeds to benefit Peekskill Celebration and the annual Columbus Day Youth Races.

The Elton Brand Youth Basketball Clinic: The clinic begins at 11 a.m. Youth ages 7-15 are invited to participate in the 30-minute clinic. Clinics are conducted by Peekskill High School Coach Lou Panzanaro with members and alumni of the Peekskill Red Devils. Registration is requested and space is limited. Shuttle buses will be available from downtown.

The Support Connection of Yorktown Home Run Derby: The derby will be held at Peekskill Stadium on Louisa Street from 4 to 10 p.m. A $25 donation is required to participate and gets participants 10 hits at bat. Bring your own aluminum bat; helmets will be provided. Participants receive free T-shirt. A $10 donation is requested from spectators. This is great venue to watch the fireworks show.

The Dragons on the Hudson dragon boat races: The premier event of the Peekskill Celebration will begin at 9 a.m. Dragon boat teams from across the area will compete for glory in several race heats throughout the day. Cancer Awareness Races will begin at 9 a.m. and a rose ceremony will take place at the end of those races around noon. Community team races will begin at 1 p.m.

The Family Stage: This stage will spotlight youth entertainers and entertainment for children and will be emceed by Peekskill’s Magical Margo:

  • Trifecta: 1-1:45 p.m.
  • Home Town Hero: 2-2:45
  • The WIZ KIDZ: 3–4 p.m.
  • Ray Blue: 4:15–5 p.m.
  • Myles Mancuso: 5:15–6 p.m.
  • Chris Clark’s Bicycle Stunt Show: Performances at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Child ID Kits: Sponsored by the Mason Dunderburg Lodge 172.
  • Peekskill Be First Boxing Club Exhibition: Youngsters 9 years old and up will put on a boxing exhibition under the direction of Keith Mullings.
  • Kids Craft Tent: Sponsored by Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Arts.
  • Yorktown Grange Fair Exhibit: Come and see what the excitement about the Grange Fair is all about with a taste of exhibits that will at the fair in September.

The Main Stage: The Hudson Valley is home to some of world’s best entertainers. They will take center stage throughout the day and into the night with master of ceremonies Lynne Darlington:

  • Uncle Joel's Comb: 1- 2 p.m.
  • Fred Scribner:  2:15 - 3:15 p.m.
  • Incendio: 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
  • The Geoff Hartwell Band: 4:45 - 5:45 p.m.
  • Coyote Love: 6 – 7 p.m.
  • The Mark Von Em Band: 7:15 - 8:15 p.m.
  • New York Uproar: 8:30 – 10:30 p.m.

Peekskill Celebration Fireworks Extravaganza: Don't miss this year’s world-class fireworks show. The Fireworks are designed to be seen from many vantage points, so pick your favorite spot at the Riverfront Green, Charles Point Park or on the river, and settle in for a great show. The music simulcast will be on 100.7FM WHUD.
