Wallington police arrest 2 in robbery of 80-year-old man

EXCLUSIVE: Two heroin addicts followed an 80-year-old Wallington man home, then robbed him of more than $200 in cash – part of which was captured by a surveillance camera across the street from the man’s apartment, authorities said today in announcing a pair of arrests.

After knocking on the door at the victim’s Wallington Avenue home two weeks ago, Robert Bielawski, 31, of Passaic asked him a question and left, Detective Capt. Carmello Imbruglia told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

A few minutes later, Bielawski (inset, above) returned with 21-year-old Lukasz “Luk Ash” Nieslony, he said.

Bielawski pushed the man down, then took the money from his kitchen before both bandits fled, Imbruglia said.

Detective Lt. Shawn Kudlacik and Officer Kasper Zielinski identified both suspects after reviewing the surveillance video, the captain said.

Nieslony voluntarily came to headquarters on Wednesday and told Kudlacik that he and Bielawski were looking for drugs in Passaic when Bielawski spotted the elderly victim.

“I know this guy has money,” Nieslony said Bielawski told him.

They then followed the man home.

Nieslon also admitted committing a burglary on Halstead Avenue last Saturday with a fellow Polish national, 20-year-old Artur Kotwica, in which they took $2,500 worth of power tools from a detached garage and sold them at a 75% discount on Facebook, Imbruglia said.

Nieslony, who was free on bail after being charged with robbing a cellphone from a 15-year-old earlier this year, was released on $3,000 bail within hours of his arrest on charges of robbery and burglary.

It was the fourth arrest since July for Kotwica, who remained held on $7,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, after detectives picked him up late last night.

Police also grabbed Bielawski and charged him with robbery. He remained held tonight on $150,000 bail in the county jail.

Bielawski also is wanted on a warrant out of Clifton, records show.
