Long Island Convenience Store Armed Robbery Suspect Nabbed

A wanted man who was implicated in an armed robbery at a Long Island convenience store has been apprehended, police said.

According to Nassau County Police investigators, at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, a man entered the Fast Break convenience store on Merrick Avenue in Merrick with a handgun.

It is alleged that the man - later identified as Valley Stream resident Rahtae Wilson, 31 - entered the store and pointed a handgun at the store clerk, ordering him behind the counter, demanding cash. He then fled on foot in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of money.

Using video surveillance and DNA evidence, police were able to identify Wilson as a suspect, and he was arrested on Tuesday, March 3.

Wilson was taken into custody without incident and charged with first-degree robbery. 

He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday, March 4.
