CARMEL, N.Y. — Nicholas J. Groglio, a resident of Rye for 62 years and Carmel for the last 27 years, died March 30. He was 89.
Groglio was born on June 11, 1925, in Rye to Gerald and Mary Grosso Groglio, attending Rye Schools, but left in 1943 to enlist in the Army during World War II. He would serve with the Third Armored Spearhead Division, known as 'Rolling Thunder".
His service saw him land at Normandy during D-Day and he drove a tank in Europe after the invasion. He would earn the Bronze Star, European Middle Eastern Service, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medals and five major Battle Campaign Ribbons during his service.
After he returned home, Groglio married Mary Cicoria of Port Chester and worked at Arnold Bakery in Greenwich, Conn., retiring as superintendent of production in 1983.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Marianne and husband, Joseph Giordano of Patterson; son, Nicholas Groglio Jr. and wife,Tracey of Rye, and daughter Michelle and husband, Terry Quinn of Fairfield, Conn., 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, George Groglio of Rye, and a sister, Angela (Honey) Anderson of Fairfield, Conn.
He is predeceased by four brothers, Joseph Groglio, William (Bert) Groglio, Gerald Groglio and John Groglio
A memorial Mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye on April 11 at 11 a.m.
