The Reformed Church of Cortlandtown in Montrose is having a candlelight service on April 21 at 7 p.m., an Anniversary Workshop Service on April 23 at 10 a.m. and a Tricentennial Music Festival on May 7 at 3 p.m.
The church's documented history dates back to April 21, 1717, when a list of communicants was recorded as constituting the Dutch Reformed congregation of Van Cortlandt Manor.
The church was constructed on Montrose Point but burned down during the Civil War and a new church was constructed on the current Albany Post Road site. The current church was built in 1969.
"To reach 300 years of service in the community is an incredible journey," Jill Davis, publicity coordinator, said. "We've been around a long time."
Davis said the church has always been an integral part of the community.
"We are always giving back to the community," Davis said. "We run many services, we have a youth center service that helps with addiction. We host Alcoholics Anonymous meetings three times a week."
Davis' roots with the church run deep. Her great-great grandparents were members and she was christened on the 250th anniversary of the church. Her son was christened on the 275th anniversary.
"This church means a lot to me," Davis said.
The church has had its ups and downs over the last 300 years, from not having a minister to not having much money, but Davis said congregants continue to persevere to keep the church open.
"We are such a part of the community," Davis said. "People know they can always turn to us."
