The event will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 17 through Saturday, Feb. 21. The festivities will include specials and discounts at participating Peekskill restaurants all week long and a Friday parade and pub crawl. Buckwheat Zydeco with special guests Professor Louie and The Crowmatix will cap off the week with the Mardi Gras headline show on Saturday night at the Paramount Theater. The pre-eminent ambassador of Louisiana’s zydeco music, no artist is more singularly responsible for popularizing this regional style than Buckwheat Zydeco.
During the course of Buckwheat Zydeco’s career, he has played gigs with everyone from Eric Clapton and U2 to The Boston Pops. No other zydeco artist has come close to selling as many records or exposing the music to more people around the world. The band claims the three largest selling zydeco albums of all time.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring a world-class artist like Buckwheat Zydeco to the Hudson Valley,” said Paramount CEO Kurt G. Heitmann. “Along with our neighbors and partners, we wanted to create the fun and festivity of Mardi Gras here in our community. No one captures that spirit better than Buckwheat Zydeco. It’s sure to be a great time and a great show.” Adding a bit of local flavor to the show, Peekskill’s very own Aaron “Professor Louie” Hurtwitz will open the evening with his band, Professor Louie and The Crowmatix.
During Mardi Gras Madness week, diners at participating restaurants, including The Hudson Room, Gleason's, The Birdsall House, The Peekskill Brewery, The Quiet Man, Ruben's, can enjoy a 20 percent discount on Buckwheat Zydeco tickets at Paramount with proof of a dining purchase between Tuesday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 21. Some restaurants may have dinner and show packages available.
The headline event featuring Buckwheat Zydeco with Professor Louie and The Crowmatix will be at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21.
