PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Lincoln Depot Museum will start the 2016 season with an opening weekend theme of "Women and the Civil War," on April 23 and April 24.

The weekend features new permanent and temporary exhibits of vintage 19th century women’s clothing and jewelry. Included in the exhibit will be a number of original 19th century dresses on loan from The Eastchester Historical Society.

Saturday’s presentation, “Women and Children of the Civil War, from Patriotism to Combat,” will be led by Brian D. Caplan and will feature over 60 period photographic images. Caplan has been a serious collector of Civil War era memorabilia for over 30 years and items from his collection are prominent in the Lincoln Depot Museum exhibits.

On Sunday, the presenter will be Juanita Leisch, a 19th century clothing expert and scholar and author of "Who Wore What: Woman’s Clothes 1861-1865" and "Introduction to Civil War Civilians." Leisch will discuss “Civil War Civilians” and feature a number of items from her collection.

The doors of the museum will open at 1 p.m. and the presentations will begin at 2 p.m. each day. Admission will be $5 per person with children 12 and under and museum members free.
