Fake Officer Robs, Grabs Woman On Garden City Park Roadway: Police

A Long Island man impersonating a police officer robbed and attempted to restrain a woman, police reported.

Alif Chowdhury, aged 33, was arrested on Thursday, June 1 for impersonating a police officer and robbing a woman who was walking on the street, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 1 at 9 a.m. in Garden City Park.

Alif Chowdhury, aged 33, approached a 44-year-old woman walking on Fourth Street with a badge, claiming he was a police officer.

Chowdhury reportedly began yelling at the woman, then grabbed the phone out of her hand and attempted to restrain her.

The woman was able to flee the scene and contacted the authorities.

Chowdhury was arrested a short time later at his home.

He is charged with third-degree robbery and criminal impersonation of a police officer.

His arraignment is scheduled for Friday, June 2 at First District Court.
