Long Island Man Nabbed For DWI After Crash Injuring Three, Police Say

A Long Island man has been arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated after a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a man.

The crash took place around 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 12 in Selden.

Oscar Renee Castro-Mendez, age 45, of Selden, was backing his 2006 Ford F150 into a driveway at 255 Boyle Road when his vehicle was struck by a northbound 2018 Ford 250 driven by Kevin Jones, age 44, according to Suffolk County Police.

Castro-Mendez and two passengers were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. Castro had serious injuries and his passengers had non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Jones, a resident of Selden, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. 

He was scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on Friday, Aug. 13.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
