Edward F. Sylvia, 88, Poughkeepsie Resident

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Poughkeepsie resident Edward F. Sylvia died Wednesday, June 1. He was 88.

Sylvia attended All Hallows High School and graduated from Fordham University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in business administration. 

He retired from IBM in 1990 after 36 years of service. 

He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-48.

He was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Church since it first opened 54 years ago. 

Sylvia is survived by his wife, Alicia McDonough Sylvia, five children, Carolyn Sylvia Phillips, Edward Sylvia Jr., Eileen Sylvia, Jane Sylvia and Michael Sylvia; and grandchildren, Amy Phillips Manzione, Sean Fabritz, Alissa Lotman, Jessica Sylvia, David Sylvia, Shannon Sylvia, Ashley Sylvia, Kate Hawryluk, Dillon Neal and Coty Cunningham; and five great-grandchildren. 

Sylvia was predeceased by his parents, William and Julia B. Sylvia; daughter, Jean Marie Wilkinson; and twin brother, William. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or Catholic Charities of Dutchess County.
