Teaneck Library Offers History Of Jazz Lecture

TEANECK, N.J. -- The Teaneck Public Library Friday Morning Group will host a program Friday on the history of Jazz by David Aaron, as part of the Teaneck Public Library’s Isabelle & Sol Hermalyn Lecture Series.

Aaron will present a lecture on the genre's history from its early beginnings to the present day in America.

Jazz originated from African-American communities in New Orleans during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

It emerged in the form of independent traditional and popular musical styles, all linked by the common bonds of African-American and European American musical parentage with a performance orientation.

Jazz spans a period of more than a 100 years, encompassing a very wide range of music, making it difficult to define.

The public is welcome to attend this free program, which will be in the library's auditorium, and to the coffee and socializing session that precedes it at 10 a.m. The program begins at 10:30 a.m.
