Norwalk Officer In Crash Was Headed For Call

NORWALK, Conn. – An accident Thursday afternoon between a Norwalk Police patrol car and a car driven by a Fairfield resident happened while the officer was responding to a call with her lights and siren on, police say.

Neither Officer Michelle McSally nor Joan Sclare, 58, of 127 Lakeview Drive, Fairfield, were injured in the crash, Sgt. Lisa Cotto said. Sclare complained of chest pains and was taken to Norwalk Hospital.

McSally was heading toward the Vital Care Pharmacy on Main Street for a report of an assault, Cotto said. She was on St. John Street and stopped at the intersection of East Avenue, per police procedure, before advancing into the intersection at about 4:25 p.m. Other vehicles pulled over but Sclare struck McSally.

Airbags deployed in Sclare's vehicle and both cars suffered heavy front-end damage. Sclare was given a citation for failure to stop on the right side of the road, a fine of $82.
