WILTON, Conn. - Arthur "Art" Sonntag died Saturday, July 30, 2011. He was 88.
Sonntag was born on March 10, 1923, in New Canaan, where he went to school and spent his early years. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and later spent his working life as a woodworker/cabinetmaker. He was active in and past commander of VFW Post 653 in New Canaan, and past master of the Masonic Temple, Ark 39, when it was in Georgetown. Sonntag and his wife have lived in Wilton since 1957.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy "Dottie" (Colbert); daughters Jane Bajko and Judy Grabarz; sons-in-law Jake Bajko and John Grabarz; grandchildren Kimberly, Adam, Andrew and Emily; and great-grandchildren Warren, Dylan, AJ and Drew. He is also survived by his brother, Robert. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary (Waldmann) Sonntag, his sister, Ruth Russo, and brothers William and Jack.
His family will receive friends at the Bouton Funeral Home in Georgetown from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1. A funeral will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
