New Rochelle Businessman Hits the Road for Holiday

Some people will attend a Memorial Day parade Monday. Others might host a barbecue in their backyards. And some, like Roland Rogers, will hit the road for the unofficial start of summer.

Rogers, who lives and works out of his home in New Rochelle, stood outside the Depot Market on Fifth Avenue in Pelham Friday as he waited for the sandwich he ordered. His wife and children went into other stores nearby.

Rogers, his wife Catherine and his children Sophia and Timothy will travel to Mystic, CT on Saturday to visit his in-laws. His wife's grandmother will turn 99 next week, which provides another reason for the trip.

"We have a more flexible schedule with the holiday to celebrate now," Rogers said. "Every day is a blessing when you're 98."
