KATONAH, NY--Interim Superintendent Michael Jumper addressed the seniors at John Jay High School during their graduation ceremony on Wednesday, urging them to keep an open mind and embrace change as they leave high school behind.
As you sit here together on this stage you classify each other based on your experience to date, he said. You will never completely define yourself or others the same way as you do in this moment
Jumper went on to say that when the students return for their 10 year high school reunion many will not recognize the people they once sat with in class.
The definition you have of yourself and others will likely change, he said.
Jumper told students to embrace this change and venture off on new adventures and beginnings.
You are at the threshold of being able to redefine yourself, he said.
Besides looking ahead to the future, Jumper also commended the seniors on how far they have come.
Pause for a moment. Take a minute to congratulate yourself and think about all the memories you have made here, Jumper said of not only the students time at John Jay High School but also their time in elementary school and middle school. It may seem cliché, but each of you should be extremely proud today.
The Fifty-Fifth Annual Commencement Ceremony for John Jay High School was held at Caramoor on Wednesday, June 22 at 1pm.
