Streaming Services Lead To Free Fall In Cable TV Ratings

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A precipitous drop in cable ratings has been blamed on the rapid growth of web-based streaming services, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau held a meeting with ad-sales executives within the industry to discuss why ratings have dropped approximately 40 percent in the third and fourth quarters of last year, The Wall Street Journal reported. 

As cable ratings continue to decline, subscription streaming services are exploding. A research group estimated citizens streamed 5.64 billion hours of Netflix in the fourth quarter, which is a 31 percent increase over the same period last year, The Wall Street Journal said.
