Brian Panessa, owner of Hilltop Farms, which is just north of the Montrose exit on Route 9A, made the announcement in an emailed newsletter.

"After much soul searching and deliberation, I reluctantly came to this decision," Panessa said in the newsletter. "I want you to know how much we appreciated your patronage since the creation of Hilltop Farms. More than your patronage, I offer you my gratitude for the many pleasant talks that we shared and the wonderful memories."

Panessa later noted that the farm's sale would continue through Sunday, but made no further comments on the closure.

Hilltop Farms is a restored 1850 farmhouse that serves the Cortlandt community as a farm and garden center offering food, beverages and unique gardening gifts.
