"I'm from South Yonkers, where I grew up playing stickball in the streets and working in local delis," John Tacij said. "When we found (the former Johnny's Pizza), I knew it was the perfect spot. We renamed it Dobbs Ferry Pizza in honor of the village we love. Now, the adventure begins."
The new Dobbs Ferry Pizza opened last week, even before a new sign could be raised at 218 Ashford Ave., just south of downtown Ardsley. Tacij, who works for Lyons Pride Realty as a building superintendent, has been a Dobbs Ferry volunteer firefighter since 2006. But he has been making pizza for 25 years, 12 of those in local pizzerias.
"It has always been my wish to open my own place, but I was very specific on only wanting to buy or open a business here in town," he said. "After looking at several places in town, it came down to two. But ultimately, I fell in love with my current shop, and I decided to make an offer to the previous owners."
Dobbs Ferry Pizza will feature daily student specials, and all emergency personnel as well as Dobbs Ferry teachers will receive a 10 percent discount on all purchases, Tacij said.
Dobbs Ferry Pizza is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, except Fridays, when it is open until 10 p.m. Credit cards and checks are accepted. For menus and other information, visit the Dobbs Ferry Pizza Facebook page.
