Temporary positions will be available in 33 states - including New York and New Jersey - joining the near 125,000 full-time Amazon employees that work at dozens of “fulfillment centers” where items are picked, packed and shipped off to customers.
Amazon won’t be the only retail distributor to add to its ranks for the holidays. Target, UPS and other outlets are expected to add thousands of seasonal employees with shopping numbers expected to increase from last year.
According to the National Retail Federation, United States shoppers are expected to spend upwards of $268 billion on holiday shopping, up as much as 4 percent from a year ago.
In a statement, Senior Vice President of Global Customer Fulfillment Dave Clark said that Amazon “look forward to welcoming back holiday employees who return year-after-year to Amazon and welcome new faces to the team, many of whom will continue on with regular, full-time roles with the company after the holidays.”
